Energy Viewpoints

We have spent almost two weeks learning about energy resources in class. Using your background knowledge of these resources please write a comment answering the following question.

Imagine you live in an area that has access to all nine types of energy studied in class.  If you were in charge of choosing the energy resource used by a city in the area, which energy resource would you select?  Please explain why.  In your explanation of why, include two specific pieces of evidence to support your selection and one specific piece of evidence that is an admission of a negative for this type of energy.

I would choose solar power as my source because the sun will be around for a really long time. When you buy a solar panel you spend a lot of money but over time you can collect so much energy that the energy company will buy it from you. But the sun is not up all day so you will have to keep some energy for the night just for you. It would also work best if your roof is facing the sun most of the day.

  2. If blakeville where to chose the best resource I believe they would chose Nuclear power . Nuclear power releases steam into the enviorment. The second reason is safe this dose not hurt the enviorment in any way.

  3. If I picked a energy resource I would pick Natural Gas. It has many advantages and 1 disadvantage. It is in many household items which help you live. The only downside is that it cost a lot of money but it helps families have a better life.

  4. If I was in charge of choosing an energy resource, I would choose Biomass. There is multiple reasons why I would choose Biomass. One reason is that Biomass is clean to work with. This is important because people usually like to be clean and work with clean things. Other than work with dirty things. Another, really good thing about Biomass is that you can use leftover food to grow it. To be able to use leftover food is great, because you don’t have to buy anything to grow the natural resource you just have to reuse something. Which is easy. This is why I picked Biomass over all the other natural resources.

  5. I think that wind energy is the best source of energy. Because it takes less time and money. and we have a lot of space in blakeville to build them. Wind is problery the best one I saw for the presentations that everybody did. But it can run $1.20 everyday so that would be a lot to pay every year blakeville has it . But i think it is worth it.

  6. If all nine energy sources were located near me I would choose geothermal energy for a few reasons. First off it is the renewability is great you just suckup watter than put it back in the earth. Also it’s easy to locate because all you have to do is drill a hole to get really hot water. Another thing is it doesn’t pollute that much. But there is a big disadvantage which is that it cost a lot of money. Putting that aside it has really good advantages so that is why I choose geothermal energy for my town.

  7. It strongly believe that the best energy resource for my city I would choose Hydropower for my source of energy. Though it takes a lot of money to build, and a lot if resources to build, there are some advantages and more pros then cons for this resource. Some examples of advantages are that it doesn't pollute the environment witch is one thing that could be faille to humans and animals. Another advantage is that it doesn't burn fuels witch is one cause of pollution and because it is put so close to water that if it did burn fuels it could leak into the water and kill the fish on the river. But lucky this resource is a good one it doesn't cause pollution or burn fuel so it would be perfect for our city.

  8. If i could choose an energy resource for this town it would be nuclear energy. I picked nuclear energy because only 2 people in the history of nuclear energy have died. I also like it because we will never run out of atoms and thats pretty much all nuclear power needs. I have to admit that when you split the atom you only use the middle so the other sides of the atom are put in secure underground labs and if they are released they release radiation and toxic waste. Also if the reactor melts down it makes the area around it uninhabitable because of the high levels of radiation. As long as you put it in a secure area and far away enough from your city, then you will be safe if atoms are released or there is a meltdown. All in all, I think that you should use this resource (even though it’s nonrenewable) because it is a great way to use the atoms of our world.

  9. If there was an area that had access to all the energy types I would probably choose Hydroelectric Power. I would chose that power source because with hydropower you can always have power as long as you have a flowing river or water source. Another great thing about Hydropower is that the world is made up of 72% water and that means we won't run out anytime soon. A downside of Hydropower is that you have to flood anything by the river which can leave many animals to move and many humans to leave their homes. Also, dirt can clog the turbines and case a turbine to stop working but that is a fixable problem. Hydroelectric power is a great power source with upsides and downsides but, in the end it comes out as a great power source.

  10. I think that i would choose Natural Gas because it was interesting learning about it. I thought that i would like to figure out more about Natural gas because i thought it was very interesting how Natural Gas is used a lot of place and is used i every house because houses have stoves and ovens in their houses, Houses also have fire burners.

  12. If I had to choose an energy source for a city I would choose, wind. I would choose wind for many reasons. For one It is very clean. There is no pollution because its it is just air. And I think that not having a lot of pollution is a major advantages. Another huge advantage is they are not dangerous. And we want something that is safe for the people in the town and so having our energy source be safe is very important. However it is not perfect. Building the actual windmill dose cost a lot. The price is in the millions. Hower all of the advantages outway the disadvantages.

  13. If I could choose one energy resource for my town I would choose hydropower. One reason I would choose hydropower because it is renewable. Another reason is it has no pollution so the earth would not be hurt in that standpoint. A disadvantage of this energy resource is that you have to build a dam which can cost big amounts of money.

  14. In science class, I am learning about renewable and nonrenewable energy resources. Out of all nine resources we studied, if I have to choose just one I would choose solar. Solar is great because it is renewable. I also chose solar because over time your electricity bills we lower and lower. One negative characteristic about solar is that right when you buy solar panels, it is really expensive. Solar energy also strengthens the carbon footprint.

  15. If I could choose one resource it would be geothermal because there are so many good reasons but i am only naming two. First is because It is reusable because the raw materials are water and the magma core in the center of the earth. Second is because it is really good for the environment because, it isn’t doing anything to the top surface. The only bad thing is that it takes a lot of hard work to get.

I would select Natural Gas because there are so many reasons that rule out the disadvantages. The advantages are that Natural Gas has 93 years left of the gas, and another one is that Natural Gas is used to power everything from cars to light bulbs. Some disadvantages are that Natural Gas is non-renewable, and that sometime it is Toxic when you inject it in any way.

  17. I think that wind is the most proficient way to use energy in Blakeville for the following reasons. First, wind is clean, renewable, and is really cheap. Also, wind energy doesn’t pollute which means wind energy does not cause global warming. Wind energy does have some disadvantages. One disadvantage is that the wind turbines can cost 1.2 2.3 million dollars to build.

  18. I would choose Geothermal Energy Resource to power Blakeville. I chose this resource because if you think about it, the Earth’s core will never run out of heat or magma (at least not in this century we hope.) Plus you do not have to try to burn anything to get the steam needed to make electricity. But, the only down side to this resource is that as the steam is collect so are harmful gasses to humans and it takes a long time to get the energy. It’s really hard to pick one because they all at least have 1-2 issues or harmful things that goes with the energy, but, if i had to pick anyone I would pick Geothermal Energy to power Blakeville.

  19. If I had to pick a healthy, well known energy resource for Blackville I would choose... wind energy. Wind energy is very proficient and doesn’t hurt or pullout in any way. Also wind doesn’t take any time or money to produce. Wind comes naturally to the planet so as long as the sun shines the wind will blow. This energy resource is also renewable so it never runs out.
Although, the parts and pieces of a turbine can be very expensive, when the windmills are set up it generates a lot of energy for a lot of homes and people. Windmills also are very tall to catch the most wind possible. While you are getting all of the resources you need they also do not take up very much room because they are so tall. Windmills are not very dangerous as long as you can keep your space and not climb the large pole. Blackville is also very close to a large wide open flat area so there is plenty of room for more windmills to get the most power.
All in all, wind energy would be the best in theory for Blackvilles usage and needs.

  20. If I were in charge of choosing the energy resource used by a city in the area, I would choose the nuclear energy resource. Some advantages to this energy resource is that it is cheap. Also, it is safe to mine, as well as the mining is clean. Even though this energy resource is nonrenewable, there is plenty left of this energy resource left to last through our lives.

  21. If I lived in an area that had access to all nine types of energy studied in class, I would select geothermal. Although geothermal energy is expensive and a lot of work, it helps conserve nonrenewable fossil fuels and you don’t have to burn fuels to manufacture steam to generate electricity. For example, when using geothermal energy you get steam naturally from within the Earth, so you don’t have to burn any fuels to get it, which helps conserve nonrenewable fossil fuels. Also, geothermal energy is very effective because it can provide huge amounts of power for anything that needs it. There are many other types of energy that I would consider using, but if I had to choose one it would be geothermal.

  22. If I was to choose an energy source to use for a city, I would choose wind. I would choose wind because it is clean, fast, and doesn’t cause harm to the earth. It would be easy to get too, because wind is natural and if you build the windmills high enough and get enough windmills then you could power a lot in a town. Although it costs a lot to build the windmills, it brings a lot of energy without having to get the wind, because it is comes naturally, and it won’t harm the earth. That is the main reason why, it doesn’t harm the earth, which is very important, unlike other energy resources like coal.

  23. If I were to choose a energy resource, I would choose nuclear. This is a very great resource but very expensive! In a way, it is cheaper than some of the other energy resources. This resource is very easy to mine but with that is gets people worried with the nuclear stuff around it because it could blow up. This resource is the most reliable. Knowing this, hopefully the people in the city will believe that it is true!! I get why the people in the city would be worried about this resource because in movies it makes it seem like terrorists could just blow it up with a snap or by driving a car into it. That isn’t real, the outside has a very thick coating of metal that a plane might not be able to blow it up. This energy resource would be the fit if you had some open space!

  24. I strongly believe that Solar power should win for many reasons. My first reason is that you only need to pay a one time. So if you pay at the beginning of the year then it covers any random expenses. Which can save lots of money. Second, It is a renewable because the sun is their main material. The sun never runs out there for it is very renewable. Third, Its shrinks your carbon footprint. Although these are all great reasons all resources have a bad side. In this case Solar powers bad side tate that if you pay at one time it can be expensive. So lets say on January second you pay $6,000 for the whole year then you lose a lot of money for a few months until you can regain the money.

  25. I would choose wind. Turbines may be expensive but it is renewable and is highly efficient in getting power. There is a ton of land under the turbines so you could always fill up the empty space. The only thing you really have to pay for is the turbines and the gasoline. Everything else is free, including the wind. It doesn’t cause any damage to the Earth or to human health. That is why I would want wind to be the energy resource.

  26. I think that nuclear power is the best because all of its advantages ruled out the disadvantages. And they had the best presentation. It was very interesting and cool because they had a diagram. Also, their energy source is renewable so that is also a plus.

  27. I would pick Nuclear of the 9 other power or energy sources because of first that just ten pounds of Nuclear could power the united states which means if i just powerd the city i would be more than fine and it won't cost not that much not to mention its not hard to get. but its made up of little tiny atoms called atom 235 pick one side or the other one and the one that they go to stays there and does not equal out to the other side lead nuclear dangerous to tamper with meaning you don't really want to mess with it.

  29. If I were in charge of choosing the energy resource used by a city in the area, I would choose nuclear energy. One reason that I would choose this is because its there is so much. Nuclear energy is made by the atom u 235. That is an atom and atoms are super small. 1,000,000,000 of them are in a drop of water. Therefore, there is so much of it left in the world and so little can power so much. Another good aspect is that when its being transformed into energy, it is clean and doesn’t release pollution. It’s just heat turned into steam that turns a generator. Steam is just water so it won’t leave any pollution to the environment. The thing is, there is a downside to it. When you split the atom, the left over sides are useless and can’t biodegrade. Right now, the USA is paying other countries to store these. I would look through this because of all the great things that nuclear power can do.
